twin flame tarot CARD SPREADS

You’re a Twin Flame, tarot seems a perfect tool (because it is) and you want to know more. A lot of what’s out there tells us to look for specific cards such as The Lovers, Two of Wands or Two of Cups and so we pray for those cards to fall out of the deck. “Give me that Twin Flame tarot card!” you beg. But if you keep on pulling and somehow your spreads still aren’t telling you what you need to know, it might mean that you need a little more subtlety in how you interpret card combinations (and possibly a second pair of eyes). Let me break it down for you.

heart on fire with red and orange flames against a black background

I first heard about Twin Flames in 2017. At the time I was in a precarious and inappropriate relationship with someone I had no business being with, and wanted to convince myself that he was my Twin. I read all the blogs, watched all the videos and did endless readings for myself, without success. I couldn’t seem to gain any clarity. Why? Because I was looking over and over again for an answer that just wasn’t there. Let’s look at one of my spreads from back then.

Example of a Twin Flame reading: he’s not my twin flame

What is the masculine feeling spiritually? TWO OF CUPS

What is he feeling emotionally? TEN OF CUPS REVERSED

What is he feeling physically and sexually? JUDGEMENT REVERSED

What is he feeling towards me? MOON REVERSED

What does this mean for our union in the present? HIGH PRIESTESS REVERSED

And in the immediate future? TOWER REVERSED

Yaaasssss, the TWO OF CUPS is there - a Twin Flame tarot card. “His soul knows he’s my Twin Flame!” I immediately concluded. But not so fast! Let’s take a closer look. Firstly the rest of the cards are reversed, which is not a great sign. Secondly, we’ve got Ten of Cups Rx (out of balance, a partnership that’s not working), Judgement Rx (lack of consciousness, fighting a realization that needs to happen), Moon Rx (living in illusion due to unwillingness to feel ones true feelings), High Priestess Rx (ignoring ones own inner wisdom) and Tower Rx (fighting an inevitable ending).

So what was the Two of Cups doing there? Why was there a Twin Flame tarot card if he’s not that guy? Honestly, I think he was just prepping me for my actual Twin Flame, and me for his. And how I managed to interpret this reading as anything other than a powerful message to get the fuck out is testament to the power of denial (and that pesky Two of Cups…damn your trickster energy tarot). A reading with someone else might have helped me to work out a little earlier than I did that I was ultimately blocking my true Twin Flame from arriving, which he did only a fortnight after I finally surrendered this faux-relationship to the Universe.

So let’s examine the reading I pulled once the real-deal showed up.

Another example of a Twin Flame reading: he is my twin flame

There is a smarter way to read the cards and luckily, I now know a lot about how to do that. So let’s take a look at a more up-to-date reading:

What is the heart of the matter between this new man and I? JUSTICE

What do I need to know about his connection to my Twin Flame journey? THE WORLD

What was the last guy’s connection to my Twin Flame journey? ACE OF CUPS & TWO OF SWORDS

What advice does the Universe have for me? HIEROPHANT

What does our future hold? THE LOVERS

And the final outcome? ACE OF PENATCLES & THE CHARIOT

Okay, so there is indeed a a Twin Flame tarot card here too (The Lovers). But let’s also examine the other cards before we jump to any firm conclusions. Firstly, notice how many Major Arcana cards there are, suggesting that this is a matter of surrendering to one’s destiny. Secondly, none of the cards are reversed, generally (though not always) a good sign. Now let’s get into the details.

The heart of the matter is JUSTICE: In this context I would read this as a nudge from the Universe to make a decision, one which is irreversible will have huge consequences for the rest of my life (which it has - we now have a son together). If Justice appears alongside any Ace card (there are two in this reading) then the decision is likely to be a blessed one that will bring luck. Phew.

What do I need to know about his connection to my Twin Flame journey? THE WORLD card suggests that his role is not (as with the last guy) about prepping me for the journey but about completing it. In combination with Justice it suggests that things are about to work out for you in kind of an awesome way (yay!) It is also combined with the Ace of Cups (new levels of emotional challenge and satisfaction) and the Ace of Coins (a new journey around money). Both have proved to be true.

What was the last guy all about? ACE OF CUPS & TWO OF SWORDS suggest that his role was to open up my emotional channels, initiating the flow of love and to present a dilemma that forced me to choose my heart wisdom over my brain’s constant bullshit. It took me months, but I did in the end.

The advice from the Universe (THE HIEROPHANT) suggests that you are going to need to learn how to trust your own connection to spirit and your own internal wisdom AND that this guy will be my constant teacher (how fucking true is that?) Both The Hierophant and Justice are pillar cards and when more than one of them appears in a spread it suggests that the knowledge you are about to take in might be some of the most important in your life. In combo with the Chariot card (which is an acolyte card, as is The Hierophant), it suggests that your soul has agreed to submit its individuality to a higher cause, forcing an epic surrender. (Uggghhh, the word epic doesn’t even cover it half the time, right?)

What does our future hold? THE LOVERS. Here is it folks, the card we’ve all been waiting for. And IN THIS CONTEXT, given the other cards, I think it’s fairly safe to say that this is what we think it is. Hindsight, our unbelievable sexual connection, the amount of weird kundalini shit we’ve experienced and the incredible masculine/feminine journey that we’ve been on so far also support this interpretation. It’s a Twin Flame tarot card.

The final outcome is ACE OF PENATCLES & THE CHARIOT. I am less likely these days to ask the cards about a “final” outcome, as nothing is ever final (except death - lol) but I can tell you how I interpreted these cards back then and how I look at them five years later. At the time I saw the Ace as heralding a new energy in my life and a new state of mind about what was possible to build. I saw the Chariot as a call to fight for my own values in order to achieve an improved situation. Today I see the Chariot as less about boldly and brazenly charging ahead and more about an outgrowing of an old container and a call to create a new life that will carry me through the next chapter of my life (thanks to Lindsay Mack for that wisdom). The Ace of Coins supports that task, offering me fodder for building new structures around me that can support the next level of growth and the cultivation of real-life things (home, family, job, etc.) that reflect the evolution of my personal values.
